Hi everyone! It’s almost the end of Ramadhan and Syawal is about to greet us, Alhamdulillah. Music Monday this week will be a Robot that will sing for us. Yes a SOFTWARE called “Vocaloid” that sings!
VOCALOID is developed through a joint research project between the Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and Yamaha Corporation. It is a vocal-synthesizing software that enables song writers to generate authentic-sounding singers on their PCs by simply typing in the lyrics and music notes of their compositions. The software synthesizes the sound from “vocal libraries” of recordings of actual singers, retaining the vocal qualities of the original singing voices to reproduce realistic vocals. The software also features simple commands that enable users to add expressive effects – such as vibrato and pitch bends – to their synthesized vocals.
This piece is sung by “Sweet Ann” and her vocal is based on an Australian singer whose artist name is Jody. It is not as easy as it sounds. You’ll have to have some musical knowledge to be able to reproduce a humanlike tonality. It takes effort. But the application to it is endless as far as vocals go. There’s a lot of talented song writters out there that benefits hugely from this technology. It’s like this, most of us can read but it doesn’t mean that we can write a best selling novel. A song writter may have the same situation whereby he can compose melodies but just doesn’t have the vocal range to properly do the song justice. And most of the time the song may vary somewhat when the actuall singer sings it. This is where a song writter benefits from it. It will sing as the composer intended it to be. Cool huh!
So without further a due, here is Sweet Ann singing the evergreen ballad ~ Let It Be. I chose this song to celebrate Eid with as I miss my mother very much. She is as close to Mother Mary to me. And I’m sure John Lennon would be jumping too if he got a taste of this technology. Here’s wishing you guys a joyous Eid, happy National Day Malaysians and happy MM Blogger Buds! Last but not least, Happy Birthday to Mariuca and Bella!
